It’s the 50th anniversary of Gerry Anderson’s classic series Captain Scarlet And The Mysterons, and we’re very happy about how Big Finish is planning to celebrate.
Big Finish Productions, of course, is behind the superb audio adaptations of Doctor Who, as well as Torchwood, The Prisoner and Terrahawks, and together with ITV Studios Global Entertainment, they’re turning their considerable skills to the 1967 series with 16 classic stories set for release in September.
We’ve got a video trailer…
And you can listen to the audio trailer right here.
The seven CD collection will include:
- Five digitally remastered full-cast audio-only stories from 1967.
- Eight classic TV stories with special linking material by Ed Bishop (Captain Blue).
- Music from the series.
- A brand new 60-minute audio documentary examining the history of this cult TV show. Lavish full-colour packaging, featuring a Spectrum Agents Briefing booklet containing rare archive imagery, Spectrum Personnel Files, production information and more.
There will also be “Three four-CD audiobook releases of three original 1960s Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons Spectrum File novels by John Theydon.”
They’ll be released on 29 September, so get that pre-order ready.
Big Finish’s executive producer Nicholas Briggs said “As a long-time fan of Gerry Anderson’s work, it’s an absolute thrill for us to be releasing these classic Captain Scarlet And The Mysterons stories for the show’s 50th anniversary. On one of my two encounters with Gerry, I showed him some of our Big Finish CDs. He told me he’d love us to make some audio adventures for his TV shows. Here we are, all these years later, and the lovely people at ITVS GE have given us the go ahead.”
“The original Gerry Anderson shows have stood the test of time and remain firm favourites with fans old and new,” added Trudi Hayward, SVP Global Head of Merchandise Kids at ITVS GE. “The 2017 50th anniversary of Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons is a wonderful milestone and we are delighted to be working with Big Finish Productions on these very special audio releases.”
Jamie Anderson, Gerry’s son and Managing Director of Anderson Entertainment seems understandably excited, saying, “Thanks to ITVS GE and Big Finish Productions, bringing all of these fantastic stories together for the first time is a really exciting way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of Dad’s most iconic puppet shows. Spectrum is green for September 2017!”
