Avatar sequels news… It sounds like director/Pandora visionary James Cameron is looking to recreate the magic of his Titanic days with the latest bit of casting: Kate Winslet has been brought on board in a starring role. So far, all we know is she’ll be playing a character called Ronal.
“Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, since our collaboration on Titanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career,” Cameron told Deadline. “I can’t wait to see her bring the character of Ronal to life.”
It’s unclear how many of the four remaining Avatar sequels Winslet will be appearing in, but as it’s James Cameron and he doesn’t like to go halfway, we’re guessing probably all of them.
Speaking of the sequels back in March 2017, Cameron told The Star: “What people have to understand is that this is a cadence of releases. So we’re not making Avatar 2. We’re making Avatar 2, 3, 4 and 5. It’s an epic undertaking. It’s not unlike building the Three Gorges dam.
“So I know where I’m going to be for the next eight years of my life. It’s not an unreasonable time frame if you think about it. It took us four-and-a-half years to make one movie and now we’re making four. We’re full tilt boogie right now. This is my day job and pretty soon we’ll be 24-7. We’re pretty well designed on all our creatures and sets. It’s pretty exciting stuff. I wish I could share with the world. But we have to preserve a certain amount of showmanship and we’re going to draw that curtain when the time is right.”
The Avatar sequels will be released on 18 December 2020, 17 December 2021, 20 December 2024 and 19 December 2025. You can buy Avatar on DVD and Blu-ray now. Get all the latest sci-fi news with every new issue of SciFiNow.
