The day has finally come where we can stop saying ‘the untitled Han Solo movie’ every time we talk about it. Here’s director Ron Howard to reveal what we should now call it instead…

Solo: A Star Wars Story. It’s kind of obvious, but we like it. And we like the fact that it can also be described as Solo, the Han Solo solo film.
Production on Solo: A Star Wars Story has officially come to an end, but the film hasn’t been without its problems. Howard boarded the project back in June this year after original directing duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were fired following long-running creative differences with producer Kathleen Kennedy and writer Lawrence Kasdan.
A press release appeared on the Star Wars official site, in which Kennedy stated: “Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew, but it’s become clear that we had different creative visions on this film, and we’ve decided to part ways. A new director will be announced soon.”
Lord and Miller added: “Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project. We normally aren’t fans of the phrase ‘creative differences’ but for once this cliché is true. We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew.”
Since joining the film, Howard has relished tweeting out cryptic set photos every now and then to keep fans on their toes.
Solo: A Star Wars Story stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as a young Lando Calrissian, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca and Woody Harrelson as Beckitt, as well as Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Michael Kenneth Williams and Phoebe Waller-Bridge in unconfirmed roles.
The Han Solo anthology film is in cinemas from 25 May 2018. Get all the latest sci-fi news with every issue of SciFiNow.
