Lord Of The Rings TV series from Amazon could be on the way

If you always thought that the Lord Of The Rings films could have done with being a little bit longer, you might be pleased to know that we could be getting the next best thing: a Lord Of The Rings TV series.

Warner Bros. Television and the estate of author JRR Tolkien are reportedly in talks with Amazon Studios to develop a new series based on the books.

Sources in the know have said that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is personally involved with negotiations for the project, which are currently in the extremely early stages.

According to THR, Bezos is a sci-fi and fantasy fan, and is keep to make a bid for more genre-based content for Amazon, so it’s likely that the streaming service will nab it. Could Lord Of The Rings: The Series be the next Game Of Thrones, but with presumably with less nudity?

Widely regarded as some of the best fantasy epics out there, Peter Jackson’s The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, made up of The Fellowship Of The Ring (2001), The Two Towers (2002) and Return Of The King (2003), seemed to have covered all the bases as far as screen adaptations of the books are concern. So do we really need a TV version? We kind of vote yes…

The Lord Of The Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy is available to buy now on Blu-ray for £8 from Amazon.co.uk. Get all the latest fantasy news with every issue of SciFiNow.
