The Turning, a “loose adaptation” of the Henry James 1898 classic The Turn Of The Screw, already has a damn impressive cast with Mackenzie Davis (Halt & Catch Fire, Blade Runner 2049) and Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things, IT). Now, the main cast has been rounded out in a most excellent way.
Deadline reports that The Florida Project‘s brilliant Brooklynn Prince has been cast as the second of the two orphans in the film, whose new nanny (Davis) believes their house is haunted.
Floria Sigismundi will be making her return to the big screen for the first time since 2010’s The Runaways, although you’ll have seen her work in The Handmaid’s Tale, American Gods and Daredevil in the interim (she also directed the brilliant video for David Bowie’s ‘The Stars Are Out Tonight’). Black List-featured screenwriter Jade Bartlett has rewritten a script by The Conjuring‘s Chad and Carey Hayes.
The Turn Of The Screw was most famously adapted in 1961 with Jack Clayton’s masterpiece The Innocents, and there have been several movies and TV miniseries that have worked from the material since (the recent Brazilian film Through The Shadow is worth a look).
