If you’ve ever caught yourself wondering what happened to Showtime’s live-action Halo TV series that was announced way back in 2013, we have some news for you: it’s still happening, we just don’t know when.
Showtime president and CEO David Nevins recently confirmed that active development is still very much ongoing. Speaking at this year’s Television Critics Association winter press tour, he said that Halo “is absolutely still in development, still moving forward and I’m encouraged by what we’ve seen so far… It’s still live action, and it will definitely satisfy the fans of Halo and I think also satisfy the drama audiences of Showtime.”
The project won’t be the first live-action series inspired by the video game: 2012’s film Forward Unto Dawn was divided into 15-minute episodes and released as a webseries, with 2014’s Nightfall following the trend.
Nightfall starred Luke Cage actor Mike Colter, and acted as an origin story for new Halo character Agent Jameson Locke. Showtime’s show will be the first live-action series destined for television.
The untitled Halo series doesn’t yet have an air date. Get all the latest sci-fi news with every issue of SciFiNow.
