In today’s best case of “a bit random but could be good”, Rogue One director Gareth Edwards’ 2010 sci-fi film Monsters is currently being developed into a television series by Vertigo Films for Channel 4.
According to Deadline, Ronan Bennett is set to act as showrunner for the series, while the writing team is made up of Daniel Fajemisin-Duncan and Marlon Smith.
Channel 4’s head of international drama Simon Maxwell is overseeing the project, while producers are looking to bag a major US partner and is in talks with broadcasters and VOD services like Netflix and Amazon.
Though his involvement has not been confirmed yet, Deadline believes that Edwards will have a hand in the project behind the scenes in some way.
Gareth Edwards’ original Monsters film stars Scoot McNairy (Argo, 12 Years A Slave) and Whitney Able (All The Boys Love Mandy Lane). It follows a journalist (McNairy) after an alien invasion is quarantined in northern Mexico, with the US putting up a wall along the border to contain the extra-terrestrials.
