It sounds as though FX liked What We Do In The Shadows as much as the rest of us: the US network has gone ahead and decided to move forward with a pilot production commitment for a TV project based on the film.
What We Do In The Shadows actors, writers and directors Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement will both serve as executive producers for the pilot, with Waititi also acting as director and Clement as a writer.
FX Productions is producing, and Scott Rudin, Paul Simms, Garrett Basch and Eli Bush are all also serving as executive producers.
Details about the pilot’s (and indeed the series’) plot are currently being kept under wraps, but we do know that the pilot will be half an hour long and will star Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou and Harvey Guillen. however, instead of being set in New Zealand like the original film, the new series will take place in the US.
As well as developing the TV series, Clement and Waititi are also working on a What We Do In The Shadows sequel film, titled We’re Wolves, and a New Zealand spin-off series called Wellington Paranormal. The former will focus on the adventures of the werewolf pack from WWDITS, while the latter will follow hapless cops Karen and Mike that also appear in the film. Busy guys.
