The VFX Festival 2018 hits Rich Mix in Shoreditch on 6 February and genre fans won’t want to miss it.
There’ll be talks, panels and workshops from the teams behind some of last year’s biggest genre blockbusters and TV series. ILM London will be on hand to talk about their work on Star Wars: The Last Jedi, while headliners Framestore will give an extensive behind the scenes breakdown of their incredible effects work on Taika Waititi’s glorious Thor: Ragnarok for the first time, as well as talk through the sublime Paddington 2.
Milk will give a presentation on their effects in last year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special, Academy Award-winners Double Negative will discuss the feast for the eyeballs that was Blade Runner 2049, MPC will unlock the Weyland-Yutani (or Fox, I guess) vaults for a look at Alien: Covenant, and Rewind will be going behind the scenes of the visuals of Ghost In The Shell.
This is just the tip of the iceberg; there are three days of events that offer something for everyone. Whether you’re interested in VFX, animation, games (Creative Assembly will be on hand to chat all things Warhammer) or motion graphics, this promises to be both a tremendous chance to glean some expertise for anyone starting out and a fascinating look at the work that goes into some of the biggest and best movies, TV shows and games. Don’t miss it!
