Captain Marvel adds Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva

Though Captain Marvel already entered production, the cast is still forming nicely. The latest star to come onboard is Gemma Chan, who genre fans will likely know as synth Mia from Channel 4 and AMC’s hit show Humans.

Unlike many of her co-stars, Chan’s character has actually already been confirmed: according to Deadline, she’ll be playing Captain Minn-Erva, a geneticist and spy from the alien race Kree.

Captain Marvel will be set in the nineties, and will also star Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Jude Law as Danvers’ mentor Dr Walter Lawson, Ben Mendelsohn as an as yet unspecified villain, DeWanda Wise in another undisclosed role and Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury before he famously lost an eye.

The film is being directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind), with a screenplay by Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Kevin Feige is of course producing, and Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito, Stan Lee and Jonathan Schwartz are all serving as executive producers.

Captain Marvel is in cinemas on 8 March 2019. Get all the latest superhero movie news with every issue of SciFiNow.
