Last week, it was announced that She’s Gotta Have It star DeWanda Wise had dropped out of Captain Marvel due to scheduling conflicts. Keen to get underway, the film has already found her replacement in Lashana Lynch.
Lynch, who recently starred in Noel Clarke’s crime drama Brotherhood, is now in final negotiations for the undisclosed role, according to THR.
Captain Marvel is set to revolve around Brie Larson’s superhero Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot who finds herself with superpowers after a freak accident that causes her DNA to fuse with that of an alien.
The film will be set in the nineties, and will also star Jude Law as Carol Danvers’ mentor Dr Walter Lawson, Gemma Chan as alien geneticist/spy Captain Minn-Erva, Ben Mendelsohn as an as yet unspecified villain, Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury before he famously lost one of his eyes.
The film is being directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, with a screenplay by Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Kevin Feige is of course producing, and Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito, Stan Lee and Jonathan Schwartz are all serving as executive producers.
Captain Marvel is in cinemas on 8 March 2019. Get all the latest superhero movie news with every issue of SciFiNow.
