The brilliant John Cho has officially boarded the cast of Sony’s The Grudge reimagining, according to Variety. He joins Demián Bichir (The Hateful Eight) and Andrea Riseborough (The Death Of Stalin), but there are not yet any details regarding the character he will be playing.
This casting is of course excellent news, as John Cho needs to be in more stuff. Genre fans will likely know Cho as Hikaru Sulu in the rebooted Star Trek films and Andrew Kim in FOX’s The Exorcist series.
The Grudge reboot is coming from Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures. Nicolas Pesce, the writer and director of the chilling indie horror The Eyes Of My Mother, has signed on to direct and rewrite the script, which had been written by Midnight Meat Train‘s Jeff Buhler.
The original 2002 Japanese film, known as Ju-on: The Grudge, was directed by Takashi Shimizu. It ended up spawning a US remake starring Sarah Michelle Geller in 2004, followed by two sequels in 2006 and 2009.
