A few weeks back, in was reported that Sony’s upcoming Men In Black spin-off film had its eye on Chris Hemsworth to star.
Hemsworth is currently in talks with Sony and, as if that wasn’t enough reason to start planning your cinema trip, he’ll be joined by the excellent Tessa Thompson, who starred alongside his Thor as warrior Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok, according to THR.
The news follows an announcement that Sony wants a diverse ensemble cast for the film, and had been “eyeing the leads to be white male, a female of colour and an older man.” We’ll start looking out for that older man then.
The film, which is currently untitled, is set to be a straight-up spin-off of the original three, and will take place in the Men In Black world but with a new cast of characters.
It’s being directed by F Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton), produced by Walter F Parkes and Laurie MacDonald and executive produced by Steven Spielberg. Matt Holloway and Art Marcum, both of whom worked on Iron Man and Transformers: The Last Knight, are writing the script.
News of another Men In Black film first emerged a while ago, when it was believed that Sony was planning on combining MIB with the 21 Jump Street franchise, starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, with Tatum and Hill stepping into the suits for Jay and Kay. That idea still seems to be happening, but a lot later down the line.
The untitled Men In Black sequel will be in cinemas on 14 June 2019. Get all the latest sci-fi news with every issue of SciFiNow.
