Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Eric Kripke’s TV adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s ultraviolent comic The Boys is coming together nicely. A lot of the cast is already in place, and they’ve just found their Billy Butcher.
THR reports that Dredd and Star Trek star Karl Urban has taken the central role in the story about a squad of tough bastards who beat the snot out of superheroes when they step out of line.
Butcher “is described as mysterious and brutal with a personal but secret agenda. He approaches Hughie (Jack Quaid, Logan Lucky), claiming to be a shadowy government operative. Butcher capitalises on Hughie’s rage over his girlfriend Robin’s (uncast) accidental death at the hands of Superhero A-Train (Jessie T Usher, Independence Day: Resurgence) and enlists Hughie as part of his plan to bring down the superhero system.”
The team is rounded out by Laz Alonso (Detroit, Avatar) as Mother’s Milk, Karen Fukahara (Suicide Squad) as the Female, while the role of The Frenchman has not yet been cast. Antony Starr (American Gothic), Dominique McElligott (The Last Tycoon), Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl), and Nathan Mitchell (iZombie) join Usher as members of superhero team The Seven, while Erin Moriarty (Jessica Jones) plays young super Annie who has her heart set on joining them.
