Well, we knew that he couldn’t be very far away after he sent a distress call in the first season finale, and Star Trek: Discovery has just confirmed that we’ll be seeing Captain Christopher Pike sooner rather than later.
THR reports that Anson Mount, who recently played Black Bolt in Inhumans, has joined the show’s second season as the classic series character.

However, the showrunners refused to confirm whether or not Mount would be a series regular (which makes sense), and they have also refused to be drawn on whether or not Spock would appear. With Pike stepping into the show, it would be a possibility, but co-showrunner Aaron Harberts has said that it’s unlikely. “We certainly aren’t confirming that we’re even going to introduce Spock and we certainly are not casting that role, either,” he said in February. “We live a lot in memory and flashback. The center of our show is always Michael Burnham. [W]e realize how incredible Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto’s performances were and what JJ Abrams and the original series were able to pull off with that character. Finding another actor that could even come close to what Leonard Nimoy did with the original portrayal, we’d never want to go down that road.”
Production on Season Two of Star Trek: Discovery is beginning this month, and a return date has not yet been confirmed.
