The remake of Masters Of The Universe has been in development for so long it’s one of those films that you only remember is supposed to be happening when news of it taking a little step forward or a little step back bubbles up on the internet. However, it has just taken a fairly significant step forward: it’s found directors.
Variety reports that Aaron and Adam Nee, known collectively as the Nee Brothers, have been chosen by Sony and Mattel to direct the movie that is supposed to hit cinemas in December next year. It’s a big step up for the duo, whose two feature directing credits are both well-reviewed indies: 2006’s The Last Romantic and 2015’s Band Of Robbers.
David S Goyer wrote the script and was heavily rumoured to direct, but the site reports that his schedule made directing impossible. However, he’ll still be “extremely involved in the development of the film.”
There’s no word on casting as of yet, or plot beyond the fact that “The property centers on the warrior He-Man, the last hope of a magical land called Eternia.”
With directors in place and a release date that the studio seem keen to keep to, maybe we’ll start hearing a lot more on the subject of He-Man, Skeletor and the gang.
