Netflix’s Star Trek: Discovery officially began production on Season 2 last week and, interestingly, executive producer Alex Kurtzman is directing the first episode.
It’s an interesting move, considering Kurtzman only had four directing credits to his name prior to the news (including last year’s The Mummy, 2012’s People Like Us, talk show New Day and an episode of Alias in 2003), but we’re eager to see what he does with the Season 2 premiere.
As well as acting as an executive producer for Star Trek: Discovery, Kurtzman also EP’d for the first Star Trek film and the sequel Star Trek Into Darkness, and is set to do the same for the next film in the series. He also has producing duties on all of Universal’s upcoming Dark Universe films in the works.
You can read the synopsis for the show here:
STAR TREK: DISCOVERY follows the voyages of Starfleet on their missions to discover new worlds and new life forms, and one Starfleet officer who must learn that to truly understand all things alien, you must first understand yourself.
