Pet Sematary remake casts John Lithgow

The remake of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary snags the great John Lithgow

Some “oh damn, that’s perfect” casting news: the Pet Sematary remake has cast the most excellent John Lithgow as Jud Crandall.

EW reports that the star of everything from The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension to The Crown has signed on to join Jason Clarke in the new take on Stephen King’s delightfully horrid horror novel. He’ll be following in the footsteps of Fred Gwynne as the Creeds’ “kindly but lonely” neighbour who takes Louis to where the ground…is sour.

“Jud has lived in the area long enough to know its many secrets, and he takes the young family on a tour of nearby woods that leads to a peculiar pet burial ground. Later, he guides Louis far beyond the rudimentary “pet sematary” to an even stranger place deep in the wilderness after a speeding truck on their rural road claims the life of the family’s pet.”

Clarke will be playing Louis Creed, and the third key part, that of his wife Rachel, has yet to be cast. Nor has Zelda…

Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch (Starry Eyes) are directing from a script by Jeff Buhler (The Midnight Meat Train, the upcoming Nightflyers).

Pet Sematary will be released on 19 April 2019. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
