So much to process here: according to THR, Lucasfilm is working on a Boba Fett standalone film, and Logan‘s James Mangold is writing and directing it.
Following 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and the release of Han Solo origin Solo: A Star Wars Story, Mangold’s film is just one of the various standalone Star Wars films Lucasfilm is working on, alongside an Obi-Wan Kenobi story that is currently in development.
For a while, there was a rumour going around that X-Men producer Simon Kinberg was working on a Boba Fett film. Disney and Lucasfilm have both declined to confirm it, but THR has revealed that sources say Mangold and Kinberg are both set to co-write the script, with Kinberg also serving as a producer for the film.
Details about the Boba Fett film are being kept firmly under wraps, but we doubt it’ll be an origin story, what with George Lucas already having gone there in the Star Wars prequels.
Boba Fett (who has managed to gain cult status over the years) didn’t have much screen time in the original trilogy, but there’s still plenty of source material to work with. The bounty hunter went on to have his story stretched out in various novels, comics, animated series and video games.
