Timeless cancelled again but there might just be a 2 hour movie, maybe

Sad news for fans of NBC’s time travel drama Timeless, as the network has decided not to give Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke’s show a third season.

EW reports that weeks of negotiations to attempt to find a way to continue the show have failed, and that stars Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter and Malcolm Barrett are expected to be released from their contracts soon.

It’s the second cancellation for Timeless after NBC axed it last year, only to give it a second chance following a fantastic fan outcry. While it’s possible the show may be picked up elsewhere, EW notes that “there has been no movement on that front.”

But what about the cliffhanger? Well, it sounds like there might just be a chance that “there are discussions about wrapping things up in a two-hour movie”…then also notes that “those talks have been going on for awhile and it’s unclear if anything will come of them.”

However, given how devoted the fans of the show are, we wouldn’t be too surprised if the Timeless team were given the chance to wrap it up. Shawn Ryan is certainly up for it:

It’s been a hectic couple of months for genre shows. We’ve seen The Expanse and Lucifer cancelled then revived (at Amazon and Netflix respectively), Legion and The Terror renewed, and The Exorcist cruelly sent to an early grave.

Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
