Stephen King’s From A Buick 8 film adaptation on the way

Just when you start to think there aren’t enough Stephen King film adaptations on the horizon, a new one pops into existence. This time, it’s an adaptation of King’s horror novel From A Buick 8.

According to Deadline, the film has been optioned by Ashok Amritraj’s Hyde Park Entertainment, and has Amritraj on board as a producer. Addison Mehr and Priya Amritraj will serve as executive producers.

Though From A Buick 8 is still in its early stages, it also already has a director attached: William Brent Bell (The Devil InsideStay Alive), who will be working from a script he is penning himself.

If you’re unfamiliar with the story, here’s the official Amazon synopsis:

Come close, children, and see the living crocodile. A vintage ’54 Buick Roadmaster. At least, that’s what it looks like . . .

There is a secret hidden in Shed B in the state police barracks in Statler, Pennsylvania. A secret that has drawn troopers for twenty years – terrified yet irresistibly tempted to look at its chrome fenders, silver grille and exotic exhaust system.

Young Ned Wilcox has started coming by the barracks: mowing the lawn, washing the windows, shovelling snow; it’s a boy’s way of holding on to his father – recently killed in a strange road accident by another Buick.

And one day Ned peers through the windows of Shed B and discovers the family secret. Like his father, Ned wants answers. He deserves answers. And the secret begins to stir…

The novel was first released in 2002, and was his second work to feature an evil vintage car, after Christine.

This is the second time a From A Buick 8 film has been in the works: in 2005, Chesapeake Films announced it would be adapting the novel with George Romero directing and a script by Johnathon Schaech and Richard Chizmar. However, Romero was later replaced by Tobe Hooper, and then production stalled in 2009 following problems with financing.
