Y: The Last Man TV series casts Timothy Hutton

We’re finally getting an adaptation of Brian K Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s beloved comic Y: The Last Man, and things are getting going on the pilot which is apparently now just called Y.

Deadline reports that veteran actor Timothy Hutton (Leverage, The Dark Half, All The Money In The World) has been cast as the US President in the pilot episode, but as fans of the comic will tell you, and as the title suggests, don’t necessarily get attached to any male actor cast who isn’t playing Yorick. Or his little Capuchin Ampersand.

He joins Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk, The Killing Of A Sacred Deer, American Animals) as Yorick, Imogen Poots (Green Room, Fright Night) as Yorick’s EMT sister Hero, Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel) as Agent 355, Julia Canfield (Succession) as Yorick’s beloved Beth, Amber Tamblyn (127 Hours) as the President’s daughter Mariette Callows, Marin Ireland (Hell Or High Water) as the President’s senior assistant Nora, and Diane Lane as Senator Jennifer Brown, Yorick and Hero’s mother.

The pilot is set up at FX and comes from showrunners Michael Green (American Gods, Blade Runner 2049) and Aïda Mashaka Croal (Luke Cage, Turn).

Y traverses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event has decimated every male mammal save for one lone human. The new world order of women will explore gender, race, class and survival.”
