As Cathy Yan’s Birds Of Prey inches closer towards production, a few more details have started to emerge and now we know who the villain will be…probably.
The Wrap claims that our heroines will be facing off against Batman villain Black Mask, who’ll be making his big screen debut. There’s no word on who’ll be playing the character, but given that the only confirmed cast member so far is Margot Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn, that’s not too much of a surprise.
He’s a “a brutally sadistic kingpin in Gotham City’s criminal underworld who has a fixation with masks…Black Mask is the criminal alias of Roman Sionis, who murdered his wealthy, status-obsessed parents to take control of the family corporation, then lost everything when he proved to be a terrible businessman. Seeking revenge on the people he blamed for his own failures — particularly Bruce Wayne and Wayne Enterprises — he returns, hidden behind an ebony black mask, at the head of a gang called the False Face Society.”
Meanwhile, the Birds Of Prey line-up includes Harley Quinn, Renee Montoya, Black Canary, Huntress and a young Cassandra Cain. Christina Hodson wrote the script and she’s also working on DC’s Batgirl movie.
Production is expected to begin early next year but there’s been no official confirmation on a date.
