Considering that American Horror Story: Apocalypse is set to be a crossover between the show’s first season, Murder House, and its third, Coven, it’s expected that existing characters will crop up.
For quite some time, fans have known that the likes of witches Cordelia Foxx and Misty Day are making a comeback, as is Jessica Lange’s Fiona Goode. But now, showrunner Ryan Murphy has revealed that Evan Peters’ Tate Langdon will be returning too.
Taking to Instagram, Murphy shared an image of Emma Roberts, dressed all in black as her Coven character Madison Montgomery, before posting a snapshot of Peters alongside the caption, ‘Tate. Happy to be home.’
In the photo, Peters can be seen wearing ripped jeans, a beige jumper and sporting Langdon’s recognisable blonde mop of hair.
In Murder House, Langdon was a ghost, condemned to dwelling in the Los Angeles-based abode after a SWAT team executed him when he was a teenager. Across the series, it was established that he was deeply disturbed, had a difficult relationship with his emotionally distant mother Constance (Lange) and had strong romantic feelings for Violet Harmon, the living girl who moved into his former house in the present.
While his love for Harmon initially seemed to be setting him up as a sympathetic character, his true nature soon shined through and he became more of an antagonist. In flashbacks to when he was alive, it showed how Langdon shot and killed 15 students at his high school.
As a ghost, he has sex with Violet’s mother Vivien (who believes he is actually her husband Ben due to him being disguised in a head-to-toe rubber suit) and winds up getting her pregnant. Their child, Michael Langdon, ends up being part-human, part-spirit and is later revealed to be the Antichrist.
These behind-the-scenes glimpses at the upcoming season aren’t the first insight we’ve gotten into the eagerly-anticipated eighth season.
Over the last week or so, Murphy has also shared images of Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott as Vivien and Ben respectively, as well as Stevie Nicks, Frances Conroy, Gabourey Sidibe, Lily Rabe and Taissa Farmiga.
American Horror Story: Apocalypse will premiere in the US on FX on Sept 12.
