A Quiet Place 2 officially sets 2020 release date

When A Quiet Place was released back in April, it proved hugely popular with both fans and critics. From its relatively small budget of around $17 million, it made an impressive $333 million at the box office and it success spurred rumours of a sequel.

Now, Paramount Pictures has officially set a release date for a follow-up: 15 May 2020.

Talking about the upcoming continuation with Collider, Platinum Dunes’ head Andrew Form confirmed that co-writer and director John Krasinski will “definitely [be] involved” and that it’s great to not have to rush both development and production.

“I’ve had movies where the studio says to you, ‘Here’s your date. Let’s go!’ and on this one we’re not rushing anything, which is amazing,” Form said. “So we’re gonna take our time, we’re gonna figure out where to go, but there is no rush on it and we’re just starting to talk about it.”

“We’re figuring out what everyone’s involvement’s gonna be and what the actual next movie’s gonna be. The first one is so special to us that we really want to take our time with this and not rush anything.

“It’s such a special movie to us, the experience and everything,” Form continued. “It’s easy to rush these and we’ve made movies in the past where we’ve rushed them through and we’ve felt it, and we just don’t wanna do it on this one. We really don’t. We really just wanna take our time and as long as it takes, it takes. It has to be the right story, just like the first one. It just has to be.”

Starring Krasinski, Noah Jupe, Millicent Simmonds and Emily Blunt, the first film followed the Abbott family as they tried to survive in a world where ferocious, sound-sensitive creatures have wiped out most of the human population and making one noise could mean sudden death for the ones still living.

Krasinski previously told Deadline that if he were to be involved in a sequel, he’d like to explore more areas and individuals that were affected by – yet are managing to live through – the invasion.

“The thing that I loved in the movie… where my mind kept wandering as we were making it, was the question of who was on the other end of those fires, when the father lights the fire and in the distance those other fires light up,” Krasinski pondered. “How did those people survive?”

The A Quiet Place sequel will be released on 15 May 2020. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
