Night Of The Comet remake on the way, Roxanne Benjamin set to write it

There’s a remake of Thom Eberhardt’s Night Of The Comet on the way, and Roxanne Benjamin is set to write the script. The news comes courtesy of Deadline.

Benjamin is known for writing and directing Southbound (2015), the ‘Don’t Fall’ and ‘The Birthday Party’ segments of XX (2017) and upcoming thriller Body At Brighton Rock

The original Night Of The Comet was first released in 1984, and starred Catherine Mary Stewart, Kelli Maroney and Robert Beltran. It was produced on a budget of less than $1 million, and managed to pull in $14 million at the US box office.

The comedy-sci-fi-horror film followed two sisters, Reggie and Sam Belmont, who wake up to find that almost the entire population of Earth has turned to dust following a mysterious eclipse that they both happened to miss.

According to Deadline, the remake will take more of a sci-fi/horror route than a comedy one, which is a little disappointing. The comedy is what made Night Of The Comet stand out in a sea of sub-par films with very similar plots.

The new film is coming from Orion Pictures.
