The Resident Evil reboot has found its writer and director

Constantin Film’s upcoming Resident Evil reboot appears to be coming together nicely. The film has recently found a writer and a director in 47 Meters Down‘s Johannes Roberts, reports Variety.

As well as 47 Meters Down, Roberts is also known for his work on horror films The Other Side Of The DoorStorage 24Forest Of The DamnedDarkhunters and Hellbreeder. His next film, 47 Meters Down: The Next Chapter, is currently in pre-production.

Based on the video game of the same name, the original Resident Evil film series follows Milla Jovovich’s Alice as she fights the zombies that terrorise Raccoon City after an experiment gone wrong, while also attempting to take down the evil Umbrella Corp., the company that was responsible for the outbreak in the first place.

A reboot of the film series has been on the cards since May 2017 (Resident Evil: The Final Chapter hit cinemas in 2016). It was no surprise that Constantin was keen to get a new series going as soon as possible: the original is notable for being the highest-grossing film series based on a video game of all time, and has raked in a whopping $1.2 billion to date.
