DC Universe’s Stargirl adds some more cast members

Following last week’s news that Joel McHale had joined the cast of Geoff Johns’ new Stargirl series for DC Universe as Starman, even more casting news has come to light.

The show has officially added Lou Ferrigno Jr as Rex Tyler/Hourman, while Brian Stapf has signed up to play Ted Grant/Wildcast.

In the original comics, Hourman was a master chemist and adrenaline junkie who possessed super-human strength for one hour a day, while Wildcat was a former professional boxer. Both went on to become founding members of the Justice Society of America.

The series will also star Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl, Giancarlo Esposito as Archie Brubaker and Anjelika Washington in an undisclosed but key role.

Johns is executive producing the series alongside Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. Warner Bros is producing, and Johns is writing the pilot episode. The series will air on subscription streaming service DC Universe.

The following is the show’s official description of the character of Stargirl: “Courtney Whitmore (aka Stargirl) is smart, athletic and above all else kind. This high school teenager’s seemingly perfect life hits a major speedbump when her mother gets married and her new family moves from Los Angeles, California to Blue Valley, Nebraska.

“Struggling to adapt to a new school, make new friends and deal with a new step-family, Courtney discovers her step-father has a secret; he used to be the sidekick to a superhero. “Borrowing” the long-lost hero’s cosmic staff, Courtney becomes the unlikely inspiration for an entirely new generation of superheroes.”

And here’s the show’s synopsis:

STARGIRL follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new drama reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series.
