The Magicians renewed for Season 5 by Syfy

Fans of Syfy hit The Magicians still have magic ahead of them: the network has renewed the show for Season 5, which will consist of 13 episodes.

The series is based on the novels of the same name by Lev Grossman, and follows Quentin Coldwater, a student at Brakebills University for Magical Pedagogy, as he trains to be a magician and discovers a whole new magical world.

John McNamara and Sera Gamble have served as co-showrunners for the first four seasons, but they will be joined by Henry Alonso Myers for Season 5.

In a statement, McNamara and Gamble said: “Henry has been with the show since minute one of season one. His talent, professionalism and love of all things magical has been instrumental to our success. We couldn’t be happier to see him become co-showrunner. Also, he bakes the greatest bread this side of the Hudson River.”

The renewal has made The Magicians Syfy’s longest-running scripted original series currently airing, taking the title from Z Nation following the show’s cancellation after its fifth season last year.

Bill McGoldrick, the president of scripted at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, said of the show: “The Magicians raised the bar at Syfy and has gained momentum season after season, attracting a new audience to the channel. We are proud of this series as it continues to break the boundaries of storytelling.”

The Magicians airs on 5star in the UK. Get all the latest fantasy news with every issue of SciFiNow.
