Disney appears to have confirmed that New Mutants won’t go direct to streaming after all
Poor The New Mutants. The horror-infused X-Men spin-off has been hoofed around the release schedules following reshoots and all the reports and rumours that come with that, and recent rumours suggested that the Josh Boone film might not even get a theatrical release at all. Star Maisie Williams told Rolling Stone “Who knows when the fuck that’s gonna come out” last month and said that the reshoots to make it scarier hadn’t even happened yet.
However, Disney’s CinemaCon presentation seems to have put an end to that. IGN reports that The New Mutants was included on their slate of theatrical presentations, but it’s unclear whether or not the film will keep to its original August release date as several Fox movies are due to be rescheduled now that they’re all Disney films.
It’s been a very long time since the first trailer came out in October 2017 and we’re still really curious to see it. Fingers crossed that it’s worth the wait.
The New Mutants stars Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Blu Hunt, Henry Zaga and Alice Braga. Josh Boone wrote the script with Knate Lee.
“Five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.”
The New Mutants is set for release on 2 August 2019.
