According to THR, the brilliant Kumail Nanjiani has just been added to the cast of The Eternals, one of two Marvel films readying to begin shooting this year.
For those unfamiliar with him, Nanjiani is an actor and comedian best known for writing and starring in hit 2017 rom-com The Big Sick, as well as appearing in ‘The Comedian‘ episode of Jordan Peele’s The Twilight Zone reboot, HBO’s Silicon Valley and more.
Marvel’s The Eternals is based on the 1976 comic book series by Jack Kirby, which follows a superhero group that goes by the same name. A fictional species of humanity, they each possess powers like flight, superhuman strength, teleportation, forcefield generation, transmuting objects and more. Together, they team up to defend the Earth and wage a war against their destructive counterparts known as the Deviants.
Chloé Zhao (The Rider, Songs My Brothers Taught Me) is set to direct from a script by Matthew K Firpo and Ryan Firpo. The only other star currently attached is Angelina Jolie, who is rumoured to be playing Sersi, an immortal member of the Eternals whole lives among humans.
