Sony is working on a Cinderella reimagining starring Camila Cabello
Sony and Blockers director Kay Cannon are working on a film reimagining of Cinderella, according to THR, and Grammy-nominated singer Camila Cabello is set to star.
The plan is for Cabello (previously of Fifth Harmony fame) to both star as the titular character and be heavily involved with the film’s music. Cinderella will mark the singer’s acting debut.
As well as directing Blockers, Cannon is also know for writing the screenplays for all three Pitch Perfect films, writing a handful of 30 Rock and New Girl episodes, and creating Netflix series Girlboss.
The idea for the Cinderella reimagining initially came from James Corden, of all places. Corden will be producing the film with his Fulwell 73 partner Leo Pearlman.
Plot details are currently being kept under wraps but we’re guessing the film will involve a fairy godmother, a royal ball and a glass slipper. Sony seems keen to get things rolling quickly, and has put the project on a fast track for production.
