A handful of new faces will appear in Season 2 of Hulu’s Castle Rock, but one in particular might not be one you were expecting: according to Deadline, the show has added Boardwalk Empire and House Of Cards star Paul Sparks as legendary bully John “Ace” Merrill.
The role was originally supposed to be played by Garrett Hedlund (Mudbound), and the actor had even filmed a few scenes for the new season. Deadline reports that the change of actor was down to a creative decision related to the character. The scenes Hedlund had already filmed will be reshot with Sparks in the role.
In Season 2, Ace will be taking over his uncle Pop’s (Tim Robbins) businesses and threatening a fragile peace with nearby Jerusalem’s Lot.
Elsewhere in Castle Rock, Lizzy Caplan joins the cast as Stephen King’s famous psychopathic nurse Annie Wilkes, who causes tensions between opposing clans to rise. Other new cast members include Yusra Warsama, Barkhad Abdi, Elsie Fisher and Matthew Alan.
The series was developed for television by Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason, who both serve as executive producers alongside JJ Abrams, Ben Stephenson, Vince Calandra, Stephen King and Liz Glotzer. Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros Television produce.
