Orion Pictures’ upcoming reboot of Child’s Play has hired composer Bear McCreary to write the music for the film. The news was announced in this fun video, featuring McCreary playing the music on undersized toy instruments:
In a statement, McCreary said: “Chucky haunted my dreams when I was a kid, ever since his devilish little face peered out at me from a torn VHS cover at my local video store. Now, thirty years later, I have a remarkable opportunity to contribute to his musical legacy.
“Inspired by the Chucky’s toy-store origins, I’ve assembled a ‘toy orchestra,’ of toy pianos, hurdy gurdies, accordions, plastic guitars, and otamatones, that will be featured prominently in the score. I hope that these creepy, unique tones will help terrify the next generation of Child’s Play fans!”
McCreary has been dipping his musical toes into the genre pond for years, so we expect many of you to know his work. But for those unfamiliar, McCreary is known for his scores for TV series like The Walking Dead, Outlander, Battlestar Galactica, Da Vinci’s Demons, Caprica and Agents Of SHIELD, as well as films like Happy Death Day, Wrong Turn 2: Dead End, 10 Cloverfield Lane and Colossal and upcoming films like Godzilla: King Of The Monsters, Eli and Rim Of The World.
Child’s Play is directed by Lars Klevberg from a script by Tyler Burton Smith, and is a remake of the 1988 film of the same name.
The film stars Gabriel Bateman as Andy Barclay, Aubrey Plaza as his mother Karen Barclay, Brian Tyree Henry as Detective Mike Norris, Tim Matheson as Kaslan Corp CEO Henry Kaslan, Marlon Kazadi as Andy’s best friend Omar Norris and Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky. It also stars Ty Consiglio, Beatrice Kitsos, Nicole Anthony, Anantjot S Aneja, Carlease Burke, Amber Taylor, Kenneth Tynan, Michael Bardack and JC Meredith.
Child’s Play is in cinemas from 21 June 2019. Get all the latest horror news with every issue of SciFiNow.
