Hellraiser reboot in development from David S Goyer

If you were starting to think that the upcoming slate of horror film reboots is looking a bit sparse, you will be pleased to know that another is being added to the list: according to THR, there’s a Hellraiser reboot in the works.

The film, which will reimagine Clive Barker’s 1987 horror, is coming from Spyglass Media Group and the Dark Knight trilogy’s David S Goyer, who is set to write the script and produce. The project is also reportedly being fast tracked by Spyglass.

Barker’s original Hellraiser follows an unfaithful wife who attempts to help her dead lover escape from hell through summoning infamous demons called Cenobites, including villain Pinhead.

In a statement, Spyglass chairman and CEO Gary Barber said: “For generations, [Barker’s] brilliantly twisted and imaginative Hellraiser haunted the minds of moviegoers with its searing imagery of Pinhead.”

Goyer added: “Having the chance to reimagine Pinhead and the Cenobites for a new audience is a nightmare-come-true. Gary is a true fan as well and we’re committed to making something dark and visceral.”

As well as the Dark Knight trilogy, Goyer is also known for directing Blade: Trinity, producing and writing Blade II and Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and writing Man Of Steel, Jumper and upcoming sequel Terminator: Dark Fate.
