Author Suzanne Collins is taking us back to Panem – but without Katniss Everdeen
Four years on since The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 landed in cinemas, it looks like we’re going to be making a return trip to Panem.
Suzanne Collins, author of the original Hunger Games trilogy, has announced a new book due for release next year, and Lionsgate are already talking about ‘working closely’ with Collins on a film adaptation.
According to Deadline, the book will be set 64 years before The Hunger Games, and will be set during the 10th annual Hunger Games – the brutal reality TV contest in which young representatives from across Panem fight for the dubious honour of being the sole survivor.
The book won’t feature any of the beloved characters from the original trilogy – played by the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson on screen – but Collins says the book will allow her to more closely examine the fall out from the destructive war that led to the creation of the Games. Here’s hoping Collins can come up with a hero who can match Katniss Everdeen.
The as-yet unnamed book is due for release on May 19 2020. Get all the latest book news and reviews with every issue of SciFiNow.
