Netflix acquires the global rights to BBC iPlayer’s supernatural series The A List

Netflix can’t get enough teen dramas. According to Deadline, the streaming service has swooped in to acquire the global rights to British supernatural drama series The A List.

The series was made for BBC iPlayer, and produced by Lionsgate-backed company Kindle Entertainment. It premiered on iPlayer for UK viewers last year, but will be available to stream on Netflix for a global audience soon.

The A List follows Mia (Doctors‘ Lisa Ambalavanar), a teenaged girl “who arrives at an idyllic summer camp expecting to be Queen Bee, but the ‘holiday of a lifetime’ turns into a twisted nightmare with the arrival of the mysterious Amber (Safe‘s Ellie Duckles).”

The series was shot on the Scottish west coast, and focuses on the themes of teenage friendship, romance, loyalty and betrayal. It was written by Thunderbirds Are Go!‘s Dan Berlinka and Doctor Who‘s Nina Metivier. Kindle co-founder Anne Brogan (Dustbin Baby) served as an executive producer.

In a statement, Brogan said: “The A List is an intense and powerfully addictive drama for teen audiences everywhere. Dan and Nina have created a dark and compelling world brought to life by incredible performances from the show’s incredible young cast. We’re thrilled that Netflix is introducing this haunting psychodrama to a global audience.”
