Amazon Studios has just ordered a live-action TV series based on the Paper Girls comic book series by writer Brian K Vaughan and artist Cliff Chiang.
The streaming service won the rights to the comic series after a “competitive” bidding situation, according to Deadline.
The project is being produced by Legendary Television and Plan B (Moonlight, 12 Years A Slave), and has already received a series commitment from Amazon.
The comic book series is published by Image Comics, and first hit shelves in October 2015.
Set in Stony Stream, a fictional suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, Paper Girls follows the story of four 12-year-old newspaper delivery girls: Erin, MacKenzie, KJ and Tiffany. While out delivering papers the morning after Halloween, the girls become caught up in a time traveller conflict when Stony Stream is struck by an invasion from a mysterious force from the future.
Stephany Folsom, who worked on Toy Story 4, is set to pen the series’ scripts, and will executive produce alongside Vaughan and Plan B. The series is part of Vaughan’s multi-year overall deal with Legendary Entertainment.
