Netflix has filled out its previously sparse cast for its upcoming space drama series Away starring Hilary Swank, according to Deadline.
Joining the cast are Talitha Bateman (Annabelle: Creation), Ato Essandoh (Altered Carbon), Mark Ivanir (Homeland), Ray Panthaki (Colette) and Vivian Wu (Cathy Yan’s Dead Pigs).
The series is set to follow Swank’s Emma Green, an American astronaut who must leave her husband Matt (Josh Charles) and her teenage daughter behind in order to command an international space crew on a treacherous mission.
Here are some details about each of the new actors’ characters:
Talitha Bateman as Alexis Logan, “Emma and Matt’s teenage daughter who must now come of age with her father facing life-changing health challenges and her mother in space.”
Ato Essandoh as Kwesi, “a British-Ghanaian botanist and the mission’s only rookie astronaut.”
Mark Ivanir as Misha, “a veteran Russian cosmonaut and the ship’s engineer.”
Ray Panthaki as Ram, “an Indian astronaut and the crew’s medic, co-pilot and second-in-command.”
Vivian Wu as Yu, “a Chinese taikonaut and the crew’s geologist and chemist.”
Jessica Goldberg (The Path) is serving as the show’s writer, executive producer and showrunner. The series is written by playwright Andrew Hinderaker, who also serves as an EP, and is loosely inspired by Chris Jones’ Esquire article of the same name. Jason Katims’ True Jack Productions, Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho and Universal Television are all producing. Ed Zwick will direct the first episode and serve as an executive producer.
