His Dark Materials Season 2 adds Andrew Scott as Jopari

Fleabag‘s own hot priest Andrew Scott has officially joined the cast of HBO and BBC series His Dark Materials, according to Variety.

As well as Fleabag, Scott is also known for his roles in the likes of BBC drama series Sherlock and Bond film Spectre.

In His Dark Materials, the actor is set to play Colonel John Parry, also known as Jopari, and will be joining the show for its already-announced second season. In Philip Pullman’s books, Jopari accidentally travels to Lyra’s world where he becomes a renowned scholar and shaman, with his dæmon taking the form of an osprey.

The news was revealed on the show’s Twitter account, which posted a picture of Scott with Lin Manuel Miranda, who is playing Lee Scoresby.

Scott joins a cast made up of James McAvoy, Dafne Keen, Ruth Wilson and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Here’s the synopsis for the series:

Adapting Philip Pullman’s award-winning trilogy of the same name, which is considered a modern masterpiece of imaginative fiction, the first season follows Lyra, a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world. Her search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children, and becomes a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. As she journeys through the worlds, including our own, Lyra meets Will, a determined and courageous boy. Together, they encounter extraordinary beings and dangerous secrets, with the fate of both the living — and the dead — in their hands.

His Dark Materials will air on HBO in the US and on the BBC in the UK. Get all the latest fantasy news with every issue of SciFiNow.
