Lord Of The Rings Amazon series adds Will Poulter

Will Poulter has joined the cast of Amazon’s Lord Of The Rings TV series

The brilliant Will Poulter has joined Amazon’s upcoming Lord Of The Rings series, according to Variety. The actor has been cast in one of the show’s lead roles, although more details regarding his character are being kept under wraps.

Poulter is now one of only two cast members attached to the series, having joined Australian actress Markella Kavenagh who boarded the project in July as a mystery character known only as Tyra. Production is set to begin in 2020.

Poulter started his acting career appearing as Lee Carter in charming 2007 Brit comedy film Son Of Rambow, before gaining wider recognition playing Eustace Scrubb in The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader. His other projects include We’re The MillersWild Bill and The Maze Runner, and he more recently appeared in Ari Aster’s horror Midsommar and the ‘Bandersnatch‘ episode of Black Mirror.

JA Bayona is set to direct the first two episodes of the new series. Bayona is also set to serve as an executive producer, along with his producing partner Belén Atienza. JD Payne and Patrick McKay have signed up to write the series, with Game Of Thrones‘ Bryan Cogman on board as a consultant and Breaking Bad‘s Gennifer Hutchison making up part of the writers’ room.

The series will be set during the Second Age, more than 3,000 years before the start of The Fellowship Of The Ring.
