The Matrix 4 has been busy. Since the recent announcement that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has joined the cast in a lead role, the film has already added a few more stars.
According to Variety, Neil Patrick Harris has been added to the ensemble cast in a currently undisclosed role. Harris is known for his roles in Doogie Howser M.D., How I Met Your Mother, A Series Of Unfortunate Events and Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. He has also starred in a number of theatre productions.
In addition to Harris, the film has also tapped Jada Pinkett Smith to return to the franchise as Niobe, reports Deadline. She played the character in The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions, the Enter The Matrix video game and The Matrix Online multiplayer game. Smith is known for her work in The Nutty Professor, Set It Off, Girls Trips, Gotham and more.
The latest additions to the cast join Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, who will be reprising their Matrix trilogy roles as Neo and Trinity respectively.
Even with the two new cast members, Keanu Reeves is still the only star without three names.
The Matrix 4 is being directed by franchise co-creator Lana Wachowski, from a script written by Wachowski, Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell. The film will be the first in the series that Wachowski hasn’t worked on with her sister Lily.
Lana Wachowski is also producing with her long-time collaborator Grant Hill, and filming is expected to begin at the start of 2020.
The Matrix 4 will hit cinemas in 2022. Get all the latest sci-fi news with every issue of SciFiNow.
