The Craft reboot casts Michelle Monaghan

The cast of Sony and Blumhouse’s upcoming The Craft reboot is looking very nice indeed, with the latest addition being the brilliant Michelle Monaghan, according to Deadline.

There are currently no details available concerning Monaghan’s character, but she joins a cast made up of Caliee Spaeny (Bad Times At The El Royale) as lead teen witch Hannah, and Gideon Adlon (The Society), Lovie Simone (Greenleaf) and Zoey Luna (Pose) as a coven of teen witches, as well The X-Files‘ David Duchovny in an undisclosed role.

Monaghan is known for her roles in films like Kiss Kiss Bang BangGone Baby GoneMade Of HonorSource Code and the more recent Mission: Impossible films.

The retelling of The Craft is set to follow a similar story to the original 90s cult hit: Hannah, the film’s equivalent of Robin Tunney’s character Sarah Bailey, is “a high school outcast who falls into a friendship with three other young women and begins experimenting with witchcraft. They unleash a power that at first seems to solve problems in their lives but slowly consumes them with unforeseen costs.”

Zoe Lister-Jones has signed up to write and direct the film, and Columbia Pictures and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse are financing it. Blum will serve as an executive producer alongside Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher’s Red Wagon Entertainment. Red Wagon’s Lucas Wiesendanger is executive producing alongside Andrew Fleming, who directed the original The Craft film.

The original film was released in 1996 to mixed reviews, but has since gone on to earn its cult film status. It stars Robin Tunney as Sarah Bailey, Neve Campbell as Bonnie Harper, Rachel True as Rochelle Zimmerman and the brilliant Fairuza Balk as Nancy Downs.
