HBO greenlights Game Of Thrones spin-off House Of The Dragon

George RR Martin and Ryan Condal’s Game Of Thrones spin-off House Of The Dragon has been greenlit by HBO

Following the announcement that Jane Goldman’s Game Of Thrones prequel series starring Naomi Watts has been cancelled, HBO now brings some good news.

George RR Martin and Ryan Condal’s prequel spin-off House Of The Dragon has officially been greenlit. Miguel Sapochnik is set to partner with Condal to serve as showrunner, and will direct the pilot and additional episodes. Condal will write the ten-episode first season.

House Of The Dragon will of course focus on House Targaryen, and will be set 300 years before the events of Game Of Thrones to track the rise and fall of the Targaryens. It will be based on Martin’s book Fire & Blood.

HBO also released a poster for the series via its Game Of Thrones twitter account. Check it out:

HBO programming president Casey Bloys said: “The Game Of Thrones universe is so rich with stories. We look forward to exploring the origins of House Targaryen and the earlier days of Westeros along with Miguel, Ryan and George.”
