Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Brand New Cherry Flavor is beefing up the cast this week, having added Rosa Salazar, Catherine Keener, Manny Jacinto, Eric Lange and Jeff Ward, reports Deadline.
Salazar is best known for playing the titular character in Alita: Battle Angel and for her work in projects like The Divergent Series, Maze Runner and Bird Box. She will be playing the lead in the new Netflix series.
Keener has starred in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Get Out, Being John Malkovich and Capote. Jacinto is best known starring as loveable idiot Jason Mendoza in NBC comedy series The Good Place. Lange’s credits include Lost, The Bridge and Angel, and he recently appeared as Detective Parker in Netflix series Unbelievable. Ward is known for playing Deke Shaw in Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD.
Brand New Cherry Flavor is based on the occult horror novel of the same name by Todd Grimson. It follows Lisa Nova (Salazar), “an aspiring film director in the sun-drenched but seamy world of 1990 Los Angeles who embarks on a mind-altering journey — from the streets of Beverly Hills to the forests of Brazil — of supernatural revenge.”
Netflix and UCP are producing the series, which will be an eight-episode drama series. It will be written by Nick Antosca (The Act, Channel Zero) and Lenore Zion (Billions, Channel Zero), with both writers producing through Antosca’s Eat the Cat banner. Arkasha Stevenson will direct the first episode of the series.
