On the run up to Berlin Sci-fi Filmfest, which takes place on 29-30 November 2019, we’ve teamed up with the festival organisers to give our readers the chance to win a pair of complimentary tickets to the festival, as well as an official Berlin Sci-fi T-shirt. For your chance to win, answer the question at the bottom of the page.
About Berlin Sci-fi Filmfest
The festival was founded by Anthony Straeger & Alex Pfander in 2017. The pair are huge genre fans that came together on a sci-fi series called ‘Mission Backup Earth’, which Alex produced and Anthony acted in. It was there that they discussed the fact there were no true sci-fi film festivals in Germany. So they decided to founder Berlin Sci-fi Filmfest.
The festival itself is a celebration of all things science fiction and, in some cases, science fact. It showcases independent short and feature films from around the world, and even hosts Question & Answer sessions with filmmakers attending the festival.
As part of the entertainment, Alex and Anthony run Fan Films — this year’s offering includes Star Trek, Star Wars and some new angles including They Live and a film based around the game ‘Overwatch‘. Fans can also expect to see cosplayers strutting their stuff and offering great photo opportunities to the attendees.
This year, Berlin Sci-fi Filmfest has extended the event to include some really excellent workshops, including ‘How To Get Paid As A Creator’ & ‘Pitching For Professionals’ with LA-based web series showrunner Alex LeMay (CHIMERA), and ‘Managing Your VFX Workflow’ with TV and film digital producer Sebastian Khayt (Hellboy, Avengers: Endgame).
The festival will also host science fiction readings with Jens Lubbadeh, who will read from his latest sci-fi thriller TRANSFUSION, and classic Science Fiction Readings with The Sci-Fi Reading Club (Berlin), with each member of the club preselecting work from a known sci-fi writer. There will also be a wonderful science fiction musical session with EMME from her new album ‘Into The Darkness‘, a sci-fi journey aimed at exploring the deep connection between the vastness of space and our innermost feelings and thoughts.
