DC’s Stargirl is now set to air on The CW following its debut on streaming platform DC Universe, reports Deadline.
We’re not all together surprised by the news (a fair few DC-inspired shows seem to make their way to The CW sooner or later), but this will still be the first time a DC Universe series will air on linear television.
According to Deadline, each episode of Stargirl will broadcast on The CW in the US at primetime the day after its initial premiere on the streamer. In addition to that, the episode will also be available to stream on The CW’s free digital platforms the day after its network premiere, so there will be plenty of opportunities to catch DC TV’s newest hero.
It’s currently unclear how viewers outside of the US will be able to watch Stargirl, but we have our money on it making itself at home on Netflix.
Stargirl stars Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl, Joel McHale as Starman, Giancarlo Esposito as Archie Brubaker, Lou Ferrigno Jr as Rex Tyler/Hourman, Brian Stapf as Ted Grant/Wildcat, Meg DeLacy as Cindy Burman, Joy Osmanski as Paula Brooks/Tigress, Neil Hopkins as Lawrence ‘Crusher’ Crock/Sportsmaster, Nelson Lee as Dragon King, Amy Smart as Barbara Whitmore and Anjelika Washington and Jake Austin Walker in undisclosed roles, among others.
Geoff Johns is executive producing the series alongside Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. Warner Bros is producing, and Johns wrote the pilot episode.
The following is the show’s official description of the character of Stargirl: “Courtney Whitmore (aka Stargirl) is smart, athletic and above all else kind. This high school teenager’s seemingly perfect life hits a major speedbump when her mother gets married and her new family moves from Los Angeles, California to Blue Valley, Nebraska.
“Struggling to adapt to a new school, make new friends and deal with a new step-family, Courtney discovers her step-father has a secret; he used to be the sidekick to a superhero. ‘Borrowing’ the long-lost hero’s cosmic staff, Courtney becomes the unlikely inspiration for an entirely new generation of superheroes.”
And here’s the show’s synopsis:
STARGIRL follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new drama reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series.
