Following the success of last year’s The Case Of Charles Dexter Ward, Radio 4 is back for more H.P. Lovecraft and true-crime-inspired podcast goodness with The Whisperer In Darkness.
The new horror-thriller podcast is inspired by the Lovecraft novella of the same name, and is written and directed by Julian Simpson. It is available to stream on BBC Sounds from Monday 2 December 2019. You can listen to it here.
Here’s a synopsis for the podcast:
An expected phone call turns Matthew Heawood’s attention to a mystery in the gloom of Rendlesham Forest; folklore, paranormal, otherworldly? Up for debate, but fertile ground for a new investigative podcast, that’s for sure. One question still lingers, will our host be re-joined by his roaming researcher, Kennedy Fisher?
The duo’s last update patched together frantic updates from Baghdad as they pursued suspected occultists in The Case of Charles Dexter Ward. Very little hope lingered of solving the mystery, and maybe even less that Kennedy would return home safe… But for now a new investigation calls.
The Whisperer In Darkness stars Barnaby Kaye, Jana Carpenter, Nicola Walker, David Calder and more. It is produced by Karen Rose and features music by Tim Elsenburg. The sound recordist and designer is David Thomas and the production coordinators are Sarah Tombling and Holly Slater. The podcast is a Sweet Talk Production for BBC Radio 4.
Upon its release last year, The Case Of Charles Dexter Ward earned a spot on the Observer’s Best Audio of 2018 list, and was described as being “nail-biting and scary”.
The Whisperer In Darkness is available to stream from 2 December 2019. Get all the latest horror news with every issue of SciFiNow.
