The Matrix 4 adds Jonathan Groff to the cast


Jonathan Groff has joined the cast of The Matrix 4, according to Collider. Naturally, his character details are being kept under wraps.

Groff is best known for playing Special Agent Holden Ford in Netflix’s Mindhunter, lead Patrick Murray in HBO comedy series Looking, recurring character Jesse St. James in Glee and Kristoff in Frozen and Frozen II. He is also well known for his stage work, and has starred in productions of Spring Awakening and Hamilton on Broadway.

He joins a new cast made up of Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your MotherA Series Of Unfortunate Events), Jessica Henwick (Marvel’s Iron FistStar Wars: The Force Awakens) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Black Mirror, The Get Down).

The new cast members join Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, who will be reprising their Matrix trilogy roles as Neo and Trinity respectively, as well as Jada Pinkett Smith, who played Niobe.

The Matrix 4 is being directed by franchise co-creator Lana Wachowski, from a script written by Wachowski, Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell. The film will be the first in the series that Wachowski hasn’t worked on with her sister Lily. Lana Wachowski is also producing with her long-time collaborator Grant Hill, and filming is expected to begin at the start of 2020.
