Amazon’s upcoming Lord Of The Rings TV series has cast its first familiar character. According to Variety, Morfydd Clark has joined the show as a younger version of Galadriel.
Played by Cate Blanchett in the film series, Galadriel was the ‘Lady’ of the woods of Lothlórien, which she ruled with her husband Celeborn. She is one of the greatest Elves in Middle-earth and surpasses nearly all others in beauty, knowledge and power.
Clark is a Welsh stage and screen actress known for her work in Pride And Prejudice And Zombies, The Man Who Invented Christmas, The Falling and The Personal History Of David Copperfield. She is currently starring in BBC and HBO’s His Dark Materials as Sister Clara and is set to appear in BBC One’s Dracula miniseries as Mina Harker in 2020.
She joins a cast made up of Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle and Maxim Baldry. Will Poulter was also set to star but the actor recently departed the series following a scheduling conflict.
Set in Middle-earth, the Lord Of The Rings series will take place during the Second Age, more than 3,000 years before the start of Tolkien’s The Fellowship Of The Ring, and will explore new storylines and characters.
Lindsey Weber, Bruce Richmond, Gene Kelly, and Amazon’s former head of genre programming Sharon Tal Yguado serve as the show’s executive producers. Gennifer Hutchison, Jason Cahill and Justin Doble are set to write and EP. Stephany Folsom is the series’ consulting producer, Ron Ames is a producer, Helen Shang will write and co-produce, and Glenise Mullins will serve as a writing consultant. J.A. Bayona will also executive produce along with his partner Belén Atienza.
